Kei Imazu Exhibition

This exhibition broadly traces Imazu's nearly two-decade career from the late 2000s, from the early stages of her career to the present. During this period, Imazu relocated from Japan to Bandung, Indonesia, where she experienced nature, religion, culture, and history, prompting a reevaluation of her roots in a foreign land. The many changes Imazu experienced in her production environment after giving birth and balancing art creation with parenting had a significant impact on her work.

The changing motifs across her artworks over the years can be seen as a reflection of Imazu’s evolving awareness of the environment and society surrounding her. As the connection between Indonesia and Japan has become connected in the depths of Imazu's psyche, her chosen motifs became more diverse, enriching the layers of meaning within a single painting.

This exhibition invites viewers to perceive Imazu’s sharp, critical perspective, rooted in her contemporaneity. It showcases her unique ability to vividly represent the era she inhabits, affirming her role as an exceptional artist of our time.
